As numbers of rental units rise, myriad problems can develop for owners

As the slumping housing market erodes equity for many San Diego County homeowners, analysts say condominium communities face additional challenges as sales slow and renter populations grow. A large influx of renters into these developments can raise concerns that include falling property values, difficulty in selling units and less favorable lending terms when the time comes to finance structural improvements.
