SEDC board should not meet behind closed doors
Today the nine-member board of directors of the Southeastern Economic Development Corp. will meet to decide the fate of SEDC President Carolyn Smith, who faces calls for her resignation from Mayor Jerry Sanders and a majority of the City Council.

For years, state Democratic leaders have dismissed complaints about a hostile business climate. They point to the huge, long-term growth of California's economy since World War II and assert that this is such a great place to live with such a talented work force that businesses will put up with a lot to stay here.

Life as a police dog can be deadly. Sometimes these dogs get shot, sometimes knifed or clubbed. As San Diegans learned last New Year's Eve in the case of police dog Stryker, sometimes they even get dragged by a suspect over the San Diego-Coronado Bridge and fall 200 feet to their death in the bay below.
