Annual firefighting levy merits voters' OK
The San Diego Regional Fire Committee, spurred by Supervisor Ron Roberts and Mayor Jerry Sanders, will present to the Board of Supervisors today a promising plan to boost firefighting capabilities throughout San Diego County. This sweeping initiative merits approval by the supervisors and, in November, by voters.

Larger U.S.-NATO effort necessary there
Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's visit to Afghanistan should help refocus Americans' attention on our other war. It is attention that is very much needed. There is no question that the far larger American-led effort in Iraq rightly has commanded more attention.
