SOUTHPORT, England – From sunny San Diego to bleak and blustery Royal Birkdale, the expression on Rocco Mediate's face didn't change. He watched one final birdie tumble into the cup for a 1-under-par 69 and a three-way share of the lead in the British Open, straightened his 45-year-old back, then dropped his jaw into a smile that said, “How did that just happen?”

Refreshing Brees has no hard feelings
Drew Brees had every right to be as bitter as a 10-cent beer. But his taste runs more toward diplomatic cognac. Brees completed a 2004 season with the Chargers in which he passed for 3,576 yards and 26 touchdowns, led his team into the playoffs and made the Pro Bowl.
