Christmas tree recycling: North Edition

Most North County communities offer curbside pickup of Christmas trees on regularly scheduled trash collection days.

Unflocked trees, cut into sections less than 4 feet long and 18 inches in diameter, cans be placed with other green waste. Ornaments, tinsel, tree stands and nails must be removed. No plastic bags or string should be used to wrap trees, unless otherwise noted. Tree sections should not weigh more than 50 pounds.

Flocked trees should go into the regular trash can, unless otherwise noted.

Many areas also have drop-off sites where unflocked trees can be taken for recycling.

BONSALL

Curbside: With regular trash pickup.

Drop-off: Bins in the parking lot of River Village Shopping Center, 5256 Mission Road, through Jan. 7.

CAMP PENDLETON

Curbside: Flocked and unflocked trees accepted through Jan. 7. Place tree next to trash can. No plastic bags or string.

CARLSBAD

Curbside: With regular trash pickup.

Drop-off: Calaveras Park, 2997 Glasgow Drive; Poinsettia Park, 6600 Hidden Valley Road; Stagecoach Park (lower park), 3420 Camino de los Coches; Fire Station No. 1, 1275 Carlsbad Village Drive; Palomar Transfer Station, 5960 El Camino Real.

CARMEL MOUNTAIN RANCH

No city of San Diego green waste service.

CARMEL VALLEY

Curbside: With regular greenery pickup, every other week.

Drop-off: Carmel Valley Recreation Center, 3777 Townsgate Drive, lower parking lot, beginning Dec. 29. Flocked trees accepted. Remove tinsel and metal objects.

DEL MAR

Curbside: With regular trash pickup. If tree is taller than 4 feet, cut in half. Flocked trees accepted.

Drop-off: Liberty Recycling/Waste Management Recycling Center, 2265 Jimmy Durante Blvd. Hours: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays; closed for lunch from 1 to 1:40 p.m. and closed holidays.

ENCINITAS

Curbside: With regular trash pickup.

Drop-off: Moonlight Beach upper parking lot at Third and C streets, through Jan. 9.

ESCONDIDO

Curbside: With regular trash pickup Dec. 26-Jan. 16. For apartment complexes, recycling will be available Jan. 5-9 from Escondido Disposal. Manager must call (760) 745-3203 to request pickup.

Drop-off: Kit Carson Park, south entrance; and Jesmond Dene Park, 2401 N. Broadway, through Jan. 16.

FALLBROOK

Curbside: With regular trash pickup.

JULIAN

No curbside or drop-off service.

OCEANSIDE

Curbside: Place tree next to trash can for regular trash pickup.

POWAY

Curbside: With regular trash pickup. Place cut tree in yard waste recycling containers, or bundle with twine.

RAMONA

Curbside: With regular trash pickup.

Drop-off: Ramona Disposal will accept trees from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 1-2 and Jan. 8-9 at Ramona High School, 1401 Hansen Lane; and at Village Shopping Center.

RANCHO BERNARDO

Curbside: With regular trash pickup. Trees taller than 9 feet can be recycled only at Miramar Greenery within Miramar Landfill. There is no fee.

Drop-off: Rancho Bernardo Recreation Center, 18448 W. Bernardo Drive. Daylight hours Dec. 29-Jan. 16. Flocked trees accepted.

RANCHO PENASQUITOS

Curbside: With regular trash pickup. Trees taller than 9 feet can be recycled only at Miramar Greenery within Miramar Landfill. There is no fee.

Drop-off: Canyonside Recreation Center, 12350 Black Mountain Road. Daylight hours, Dec. 29-Jan. 16. Flocked trees accepted.

SAN MARCOS

Curbside: With regular trash pickup.

Drop-off: Bins in the parking lot west of City Hall, 1 Civic Center Drive, through Jan. 7.

SOLANA BEACH

Curbside: With regular trash pickup.

Drop-off: Fletcher Cove parking lot, 140 S. Sierra Ave.; and La Colonia Community Center, 715 Valley Ave. Through Jan. 7.

VALLEY CENTER

Drop-off: A Dumpster will be placed at Valley Center Community Hall, 28246 Lilac Road, Dec. 27-Jan. 9.

VISTA

Curbside: With regular trash pickup.

Drop-off: Vacant lot at the southwest corner of Mercantile and Guajome streets (adjacent to Geib Lumber); also a vacant lot at the corner of Thibodo Road and Thibodo Court. Trees may be dropped off Dec. 27-Jan. 9.
