A pair of sailing books: One sinks, one takes a berth at the maritime literature dock
Reviewed by Neal Matthews
Sailors somehow feel both compelled and entitled to tell and retell their sea stories to landlubbers, whether we want to hear them or not. How else to explain the Jimmy Buffet oeuvre, or library shelves (and used bookstores) overstuffed with sailing memoirs? Do we really need two more?
One, definitely: Neva Sullaway's "Chasing Dreamtime" is a well-wrought coming-of-age story faceted with vivid character sketches and harrowing interpersonal ordeals.
